@Duranthas. Your list is good, I just wish for a little more feedback on PLC2 and the Cognex Dataman series.

IIRC, the PLC-2 was a Current Loop serial interface. RS-(nothing)

For PLC2, we had to use a proprietary cable with a potted electronics box and a native COM port. No USB adapter would work, only a motherboard mounted port.

I used the XS880 in both applications, PLC2 & Dataman.
There is an adapter from PLC2 15 to 9 pin, then the XS880.
Keyspan would work , then froze after a few minutes.
