I was wondering about what to use as the title of this thread. David Bowie’s Changes won out over Yes’ Perpetual Change. Like both and am a fan of both but they are both gone. :(

Anyway, as of 15 September, my business partner and I have sold our shares of Delta Computer Systems to the employees using a ESOP or employee stock option plan so I no longer own half of Delta Computer Systems. I think the employees got a good deal. There were other companies like Parker Fluid Power that would have bought us in a millisecond, but we felt they would have destroyed the company. My business partner and I settled for a little less so that Delta could continue as is.

Last June 30th Delta celebrated its 40th year. Not many companies last this long. In the past only 50% of the startups last over 5 years. This number needs to be revised downwards due to the virus and the totalitarian response to it. The percentage of companies that makes it to 50 years is very small.

In addition, Delta Computer Systems is changing its name to Delta Motion. We have been using deltamotion.com as our domain name so we think that legally changing out name to Delta Motion will not get challenged. You probably know there is a BIG company called Delta Electronics in Taiwan. We don’t want to be confused with them. Delta Motion just had the building repainted and in now says Delta Motion.

Obviously, my business partner and I will be paid for our shares overtime, so I am hoping for the company does well in the future, so we get our money. It should. Business has been good even though we are technically in a recession even though the government denies it. It is so good that now we are finally beginning to feel the effects of parts shortages. Until now we could often win projects just because we could deliver when others couldn’t deliver for 6 months or more. We are now at 6 weeks for some products.

I am still president, for now. I still have my big office where I stage different setups of equipment.
This will probably change at the end of the year.

BTW, someone pointed out that I was selected for the International Fluid Power Systems (IFPS) Hall of Fame a two years ago. I didn’t get formally inducted until last September due to the virus. I am helping the IFPS with their certification manual. The hydraulic people think of me as a hydraulic guy, but I really think of myself as a control expert as in control theory since I can apply what I know to systems outside of hydraulics or motion control.

Should I disappear and you need info on hydraulics, ask forum member Norm or Delta Computer Systems tech support.

So far retirement draws a perfect vacuum.

I am applying for citizenship in a second country. You can buy citizenships in about 12 other countries. If you see my flag/location change then you know I was successful.

Congrats Peter, I'm sure it isn't easy letting go of something you've built for so long. 40 years is quite the accomplishment. We'll have to have a beer before you switch teams :)

FWIW, I like the change to Delta Motion, those darn Delta PLC's make it confusing for those who don't already know.

Congratulations man. Hopefully you wont just disappear on all of us. Go enjoy retirement and keep active.

If you become a citizen of another country, will you not have to renounce you US citizenship?

Generally US allows for dual citizenships AFAIK. Like almost all western nations. But the target country might not allow (but I would say, if you can buy the citizenship, that is not gonna be the case) and that would result in having no renounce your old citizenship.

The US imposes taxes on persons with US citizenship when they live abroad, no matter if they live and earn the money in another country, or pay taxes in that country, or even if you have dual citizenships.
But if you are living off you fortune and has no income, I guess it does not matter.

Good luck with everything Peter.

Peter,

Like everyone else wonder where are you going? if your taking your truck then Canada is the only place that makes since.

I watched a special on Elon Musk and his Mars project is looking good, I am just wondering how he is going to vet the people going.

They've got quite a big tax deduction though. So for most it will not be any kind of an issue.

I've just accepted a job at a hydraulics specialist too, so I'll be asking a lot of stupid questions about this sort of thing in a few weeks time.

msg me about making another PortSide visit. I think I owe you a couple.

Yea, too many Delta's. Faucets, airlines, plcs, motion controllers. It is hard to keep them straight or separated.

I can still have two citizenships..... for now. I haven't got my second one yet. I will seek a place with internet services. It will probably be a small country that most US citizens have even heard of and certainly not find on a map.

I had a long reply to all the posts above but it was getting too political.

Now I need to get back to making a video about tuning a hydraulic actuator. I can do this anywhere.

Technically in the U.S. it is illegal to have dual citizenship and when you become a citizen elsewhere your citizenship is automatically renounced. But since the Government wants your tax money, they have an exception policy where they assume the citizen did not intend to renounce their citizenship and keep them as citizens anyway. If you want to avoid U.S. taxes you have to formally renounce your citizenship.

Essentially, the law is ignored because they want your taxes.

I looked into this out of curiosity when many celebrities were announcing they were leaving the U.S.

Peter, kudos to you for giving your employees the opportunity to purchase the company rather than taking the easier (and potentially more profitable) route of selling to some corporate entity.
When you finally decide where to settle, say hello to John Galt for me.

Another company would destroy Delta Motion. The knowledge would be lost. Bean counters wouldn't/couldn't understand what is important.

When you finally decide where to settle, say hello to John Galt for me.
First I need to find find John Galt and his like minded friends are. He is hard to find nowadays.

At first your reference made me laugh, then I thought about how many are aware of its significance. Then about how serious this is, so I will share it. It applies more now than ever. It isn't a laughing matter. The world is going down the toilet.
